The Things We Say to Death

Commissioned in the fall of 2024 by the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, The Things We Say to Death honors all those whose lives were changed by Hurricane Helene. It opened the ’25–’26 season with its world premiere in Asheville on September 20, 2025, with the composer performing on second bassoon.
Writing The Things We Say to Death gave me an outlet for all of my complicated big feelings and an opportunity for catharsis, and I wanted to offer the same opportunity to audiences, no matter what they may be carrying in their hearts.
