Burn It Down!

I attended IDRS 2024 in support of Erik Paul, who performed a beautiful program of my music, including the sonata commissioned by the Paul family, Once More Into the Light. We went out to dinner to celebrate afterwards and Erik’s mom Paula asked if I might be willing to tackle another commission: this time about female rage, specifically commissioned for me, Sasha Gee Enegren, and Erik.

I found it quite difficult to get the piece started. All three of us had a lot to be angry about, but I was afraid to feel all of those things buried just under my own emotional surface and knew I’d have to do it in order to let ‘er rip, so to say.

Finally, I dove into my own rage and experienced it not only on my own behalf, but also for what the sacred feminine collective has undergone since forever.

Opening myself to channelling a massive flood of rage into a piece of music was a daunting proposition, but ultimately it was very healing and cathartic to feel as much as I could. I hope you find your way through to feeling and releasing your own sacred rage. May this piece help you find your own beautiful healing.
